The week after the Chinese GP, Vanessa got p2. She was currently on her way to have a “couples therapy” with Lewis. Her manager just telling her to be there in 20 minutes. So she got in her red Lamborghini and was there in 15 minutes.

She walks into the office and sits down in front on her manager and his manager waiting for him. He walked in on his phone and sat down, putting his phone in his pocket. “Welcome you both, today we’re doing a little get to know each other.” Aura said with a smile. “We’re gonna give you both a separate pile of cards, you’ll ask the question and you both have to answer.” Olivia said getting out two piles of flash cards with at least 15 in each pile. She handed one to Lewis and one to Vanessa.

“Phones.” They both said holding their hands out. Vanessa and Lewis both groaned before handing them their phones. “We have to do it now, since the last time we tried to do this you just played on your phones.” Olivia said with a stern look. “We’ll be back in 25 minutes.” Aura said with a smile.

Both left in the room facing each other, each with a small pile of cards. “My first card says…who is your hero?” He spoke looking at the card then at Vanessa. “My hero…I have two, my mom and dad.” Vanessa said softly. “You?” She said since they both had to answer. “Senna, definitely.” He spoke with a calm tone.

“Mine says…favorite childhood memory.” She whispered, she didn’t know childhood would be brought into this. “I’d have to say winning my first karting race.” He said with a smile like he was reliving the moment, before he looks at her for her answer. “Probably when my parents bought me my first kart, or when my parents used to take me to get ice cream after I won a race.” She said with a small smile, remembering those memories.

Media day in Miami, Vanessa couldn’t wait she had a good feeling about this race. She got sat in a room with Lando, Charles, Pierre, and Yuki. She was sat on the end next to Charles.

The interview was going on, Vanessa being left out as always. But the boys she was with tried to bring her in it.

“Question for Vanessa.” A male reporter said. She looks at him and smiles to let him know she’s listening. “Hope you’re doing well, my question is that after this weekend it’ll be your home race, so are you excited, are we hoping for a good outcome this year?” He asked her. “Yeah very excited can’t wait, and I’m hoping to get on podium even better if I win” she smiles at the thought of winning. “Also please to my editors do White Ferrari or Viva La Vida as my edit songs if I win.” she whispered into her microphone talking to the people who would edit her first win.

She then doesn’t get asked another question for the rest of the time. It was always like that, one or two questions per press conference or interview she had.

The rest of the weekend went by in a blur, Lando won his first ever race, max got p2 and Vanessa got p3.

She didn’t go out to celebrate or party, she had her flight set to leave that night so she was back at the hotel packing when Lewis walked in. She ignored him and finished packing before laying on the bed since she and a few hours.

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Her home race, its finally come. She got to the hotel and walked in to see Lewis. She wasn’t gonna let him ruin her mood this weekend. She set her suitcase down and looked out the video of their room and let out a sigh. “Home sweet home baby.” She mumbled to herself with a smile.

She sat on the bed they had about two hours before going to the paddock for press conferences. She was scrolling on her phone, but no matter what social media went on it was all ‘is Vanessa’s curse over this year.’ ‘Will Vanessa finally win her home race!’

She decided to not go on her phone and just sat in silence while Lewis minded his business. But with her ADHD she needed to do something. “Lewis?” She said softly. “Yeah?” He said not looking away from his phone clearly doesn’t wanna talk to her. She noticed this and changed her mind, she just got up and grabbed car keys her phone and some other essentials. “Never mind.” She said and walked out the room leaving the hotel.

Lewis watched her leave and thought it was a little weird but payed to mind to it. Vanessa though, she went to her car and drove.

After Vanessa’s visit she made it to the paddock and was immediately bombarded by Daniel. “Hey!” He said and stopped her from walking. “Where were you?” He asked. “You haven’t been answering my text or calls?” He asked worried. “I’m sorry, I was doing something and wasn’t paying attention to my phone.” She said quietly. Daniel noticed this and didn’t let it go past him. “Talk to me.” He said softly. “Did you go where I think you went?” He asked concerned. “Yeah, I did, I needed to, it’s been 2 years now.” She said looking at him. “I know, I know, but I’m here to talk okay?” He said making her look at him. “Okay.” She said.

Soon they headed into the press conference, she had Daniel by her side and she was glad she was in there with her. She sat quietly in the couch picking at her nails a little and her leg bouncing. It wasn’t long before an interviewer asked a question. “Vanessa, hi, pictures just started going around at you at the cemetery today before you came here?” They said. “Were you visiting your parents?” They added on, and before she could answer another interviewer interrupted. “Yes, rumors been going around you have bad luck, is it because of them.” They asked. “2021, second race, April 18th.” They said the exact date.

All the talking and the eyes made Vanessa panic. She walked out the room past the next group of people who were watching. She put her hoodie up until she got to her car. She drove straight to the hotel and goes to the hotel room.

Everyone who was in that press conference with her left. No words and no questions. Just up and gone, so the next group went in and the first to speak up…Lewis.

“Hold all your questions cause we’re addressing what happened. That shit you guys brought up, is personal, like super personal. How would you feel if someone was doing that to you. Bringing up a bad memory, you know how absolutely fucked up that is. To say some shit like that. The girl is 24 for crying out loud. Her third year in f1. And this is how she gets treated! Just because she’s a girl and been through some shit doesn’t mean you can use it against her! You don’t know what that does to a person.” He spoke absolutely pissed, he didn’t know much about your parents or past. But he was standing up for any driver who got any type of disrespect. “And I’m not answering any of your fucking questions.”

The press conference was almost dead silent. A few questions here and there until they got dismissed early. He was immediately walking to his car ignoring everyone around him. He saw that look in her eyes, hurt, panic, sadness, lost. He knew you needed someone, he may hate her, but not this much. He doesn’t know much about her parents or what happened but now all he knows is that they’re dead.

He walks into the hotel room, it’s dead silent besides the uneven breathing and sniffles. He walks farther in and sees her with her back against her bed sitting on the floor facing the wall. He can tell shes panicking and sits next to her. “Breathe, breathe I’m here.” He said placing her head on his chest over his heartbeat. “You’re fine, I’m here, I got you now.” He said and pulled her into his lap so it was more comfortable for her. Once shes out of her panic state. She tucks herself in his neck and start sobbing.

He felt his shirt getting wet from her tears, but he just rubbed her back in a comforting way just wanting to be there for her, talk or not.

After about an hours is when she calmed down. Just laying there not caring, she was just happy he was willing to help her. “I’m here to talk, but completely understand if you don’t want to.” He whispered into the air just to let her know. “Thank you.” Was all she said, he knew what she meant though, she was saying thank you for coming to her and helping her when she needed it.

About another thirty minutes past before she talks again. “They’re right, I am cursed.” She said softly. “Don’t say that, just don’t listen to them, don’t listen to anything people say this weekend and stay off socials, and I promise I know you’ll do great this weekend.” He said to her wanting her to believe in herself.

The next day after that little thing with Lewis. He acted like nothing happened, going back to hating her and she just accepted it and acted the same way back. But hey on the bright side she did amazing in all free practice.

And the next day she stayed first in all qualifying. She was in the garage looking over her Q3 which she did perfectly and got P1. That’s until Toto came over and whispered in her ear. “FIA is checking you car, apparently something is wrong.” And with that, her face drops.

Body a Day 30: Pecs

He was skinny and pretty much self-aware, shy nerd. The idea of going to the gym terrified him, especially with the fact that he was homeschooled all the way until what supposed to be his senior year now. But then, the alien that crash-landed on his backyard during the summer changed the course of his life, because not only the alien physically manipulated the nerd, it mentally conditioned him to ensure its expansion

Gone are the days when his days comprises with only hours of tutoring and video games. Even during winter, he still worked himself out in the gym for 3-4 hours per day.

He would hit the gym in the sluttiest possible outfit to maximize the seductive impact he now possessed, and he's not shy to make the advance if he spotted that the other party is interested or taking too long of a glance. Six months normally wouldn't generate such drastic changes in normal people, but the nerd has turned 180 degree different with the ballooning pecs, rippling abs and sensational quads that put people in awe or envy due to its perfect proportion. The tattoos added some nice rugged addition to his look, and the beard and thickening hair helped to make him look like at least a college senior rather than a barely-turned-18 years old high school senior.

He's not shy to show off his body nowadays, and a lot of the town folks wondered how on Earth a studly piece of meat like him never entered formal schooling. Because if there's one thing the town lacks off is a sport hero they can rally behind, and he seemed like he built for that. They all remembered that the reasons mentioned by his parents were mostly about their son social anxiety and also frail physique, but nothing's frail or socially inept exuded from the walking sex god. When confronted about the massive changes (and the frequent sex he has with plenty of the townsfolk), as if glazed or something, his parents just said that the nerd is still their sweet, loving son who cannot possibly do such things accused to them. The townsfolk simply left in the blind that the nerd's parents already mind-fucked by their own alien-infused-son and just see a parents loving their son unconditionally. Other than that, the townsfolk also left in the blind that the people around them that already fucked by the former nerd practically became an unwilling vessel for the budding aliens that grow inside them undetected. Be it men or women, the seed can grow to take control of the human they were laid into, and no one can even tell when the person's already not themselves any longer and the alien already over-ride the control of their body. The parents are one of them, and some of his early sexual conquest too, but sooner or later, everyone will take the seed and get splashed by the water-like substance coming out from his lactating huge pecs that will help the growing process of the seed on their body and getting mind-fucked by it when the time has come. By the time they realized that inside their body, there's another consciousness lurking in the dark, it's going to be too late already to reverse or halt the process as they will succumb to the control of the invading alien. With this rate, he will help everyone on his wrap before Easter next year and then off he goes to university where he can reach wider populace.

I know people love to joke about how Max would handle being at Ferrari but I genuinely think pr events alone would kill him off, he wouldn't even experience the Ferrari race week special of something going wrong. He wouldn't even make it to media day on Thursday it's Monday-Wednesday he needs to handle first. (To be fair Max would say no to them and I don't think people pleaser Leclerc can)

Charles has attended so many events and sponsor dinners this season it's insane, on average it's been three pr events and one sponsor dinner per race week (although the past few weeks he's done minimum 2 dinners per race location but the average is still one) and he did over 12 sponsorships collabs during Summer break for various companies and brands. Funnily enough the event he was just at wasn't even his sponsor, it's was Carlos's sponsor and he didn't even go eventhough he was at the ShellxFDA thing they filmed the same day that Charles was also attending. (which is a choice because that's Carlos's only sponsor this season and he's currently going into 2024 with no personal sponsors so you'd think he'd be the one attending everything not the guy with the Ferrari sponsor monopoly)

Not to mention all the adverts he films and photoshoots he also does for his sponsors. How is he finding a free day to film them. He somehow was doing promo for Vista Jet during Monza week which is insane, does this man have more than 24 hours a day.... where is he finding time to do everything?

On top of that Charles somehow has time for many side hobbies and personal ventures such as padel, visiting fda drivers not for events/sponsors, whatever he was doing with Maneskin, karting and the Jules event, the dentist he just went to, 4 bbq's this season (5 if he went to Christian Horners), his friends art museum he visits when he can etc. He somehow has time to explore all the cities he's visiting for the races aswell.

I do think Charles might drinking enough redbulls to pay for Max's salary because where is he finding time to sleep. No wonder his ass is always being tested and checked, I'd think he's snorting lines aswell.

I love everything that you’ve written for F1 so far (you are just the most incredible writer, I could read all of the fics you’ve written a million times and never get bored) but you’ve truly outdone yourself with Where You Go, I Go!!!! well firstly I can't take the entire credit for this fic. @saiyanwitcher reached out to me after I wrote Give Me That Fire and offered to beta for me. As we were getting to know each other, she asked if I'd ever consider writing an Omegaverse fic, and I said yes, and here we are. But if there is any reason why this fic is better than the others, it's all because of her! She has spent so many hours brainstorming with me, proofreading, and pulling me back from the edge when I said "I want to do THIS" and she said "girl what" (she didn't really, everything I propose she says "alright, lets figure out how we can make that work").

I'm so delighted to hear you loved chapter 3! this whole fic is sooo different to anything I've ever written, but I LOVE exploring new themes and topics and ideas in fic - you'll never really catch me doing the same thing twice. pushing boundaries is what I love about fic, but it doesn't always pay off, so I'm SO happy to hear that people are loving this fic as much as they are.

as for your question ... which, firstly, like most artists I am extremely self involved, so talking about myself is like my fave thing to do lmao. I will answer literally ANY question you could ask.

but, posting schedule. after many years of trial and error while posting long fics, the thing I've found that works for me is that I need to have a fairly sizeable amount of the story in the can before I start posting. I usually like 5-6 chapters, but, more importantly, I want to know that I have the feel of the story before I start to post, because once I post I can't go back and change things. at about that 5-6 chapter mark, I know that I'm deep enough into a story that the plot is right, the characters are right, and the tone I'm using is right, and then I feel comfortable starting to release it out into the world.

from there, I post a chapter only when I finish a chapter. so I finished chap 6 on Tuesday, and then I worked on chap 3 on Wednesday, gave it to @saiyanwitcher to beta on Wednesday evening, and then by this morning she'd done a final check and I was okay to post.

my own personal goal is to write one chapter a week, with Wednesday being the day I'm always aiming towards. so this week I was actually a little later than my "schedule" because ch 6 was giving me a headache and it took longer to write than I wanted.

at this point, I know roughly how long it takes me to write one chapter for this story (a week), but I also know some of these chapters are harder to write than others so I HAVE to give myself some extra leeway (hence the maximum of 2 weeks).

I hope that kind of explained my thought process and as I said, I'm so happy to answer any questions!

Toontown: Rewritten Recap: March 2003 (Voting)

With the month of March, the election was in full-swing.

March 1, 2003

Alec Tinn opened up the month of March by recapping February’s Campaign Arc.

At the end of the blog post, he revealed that 5,500 people had already voted, and announced that Slappy would be returning to hand out the first of the last batch of Alpha Keys.

March 2, 2003

Slappy joked around for a bit, first announcing the winner, then claiming to have been joking and announcing the REAL winner, only to go back and reveal that BOTH of them had won Alpha Keys.

That’s right, they were giving out two of those things per raffle.

March 4, 2003

Flippy wasn’t expecting to be back before the election, but just like Slappy, he was pretty excited to be participating in this, nonetheless.

He then reached through a portable hole that was hooked up to all the ballots (without checking to see who they were voting for) and announced the next two winners.

Additionally, the illustration for this blog post revealed that the Alpha Keys were physical objects in the lore, being physical skeleton keys with Hidden Mickeys on the rounded end.

March 6, 2003

Slappy was back, and remarked on how Sir Max and the rest of the Toon Troop hadn’t been seen in a month due to helping with the Toon Council Election. Slappy was also looking forward to the next Saturday, both for the election AND the return of the Super Saturday and Daily Alpha Updates.

He then announced the next two winners.

March 8, 2003

Alec Tinn reminded everyone that there was just one week of voting left, and also revealed that Flippy’s and Slappy’s campaign stands were showing signs of life, having apparently inherited their owners’ rivalry. That said, they weren’t FULLY animate yet, and thus checking on them in game would reveal that they were still as static as ever.

Alec Tinn also announced the next two winners of the Alpha Key raffle.

March 10, 2003

Flippy revealed he’d been spending a lot of time in Toontown Central the past week (a grand total of 143 hours, 58 minutes, 23 seconds, and counting to be precise), but as they were nearing the final days of the election, it was understandable.

He also announced the next two winners.

March 12, 2003

Slappy explained why there hadn’t been any pictures in the last few posts (not since the one where the Alpha Keys’ in-universe design was revealed, and even then the two posts before it were blank).

Apparently, Sir Max went to Disney World, and nobody else has had time to take or print off photos.

Regardless, as this was scheduled to be Slappy’s last post before the election, he announced two more winners, before heading signing off for what he thought would be the last time until the election.

March 14, 2003

Sir Max came back from Disney World, addressing the players for the first time in a MONTH.

The post was actually scheduled to be Alec Tinn’s, but the Toon Troop distracted him by knocking over the Ballot Box over and over again in order to force Alec Tinn to recount them. (Reminder, at the start of the month there were already 5,500 votes.) Sir Max noted, however, that that distraction would only work until Alec Tinn remembered to keep records.

He then explains one important detail, one that makes Surlee absolutely bonkers: They’re tired.

The Toon Council Election was supposed to be a small little event to give them more time to work on the rest of Toontown, but the more new features they added, the more new features they WANTED to add, which lead to it slowly but surely ballooning out of proportion into the grandiose story arc it wound up becoming. Giant TV Screens, Interactable NPC’s, basically the event became an Event™.

Unfortunately, they overexerted themselves and died.

Shockley ran away, McQuack threw a temper tantrum, and Sir Max handed in his resignation and blew all his Jellybeans at Disneyworld only to come crawling back on the very day he made this blog post.

Thankfully, they’re only cartoon dead, not dead dead. So that means they can still recover and work on the election. But now that means that the actual main event of election had been delayed yet again.

Also, they decided not to tell Alec Tinn about this QUITE yet, as he had gone a little crazy from the stress and started working the Toon Troopers like slaves. He was planning on telling him by having Flippy bake a cake and fill it with fireworks.

He also grabbed two napkins off the ground after the ballot box was knocked over, figuring they could use it to clean up all the cake residue, and realized that the napkins had names on them.

After he read the names out loud, the Toons in question were rewarded Alpha Keys, because those were BALLOTS and not napkins.

This also meant that the polls were staying open a little longer as well, but would still be closing soon.

(Also, while not stated in the election, the additional 14 alpha Keys given out over the course of the event meant that there was now 314 Alpha Testers.)

it still baffles me that i knew this friend for 6 fucking years and we had a convo abt their partner that lasted over 8 hours where they fully acknowledged all the bullshit their partner puts them through where even I LEARNED SHIT THEIR PARTNER DID TO THEM... they even acknowledged that every single person in their life hates their partner. to the point that it made them cry. they had so long to break up with that person so that we could renew our lease and fix shit. we all made it clear that the living situation depended on their relationship with that person and that we could not continue living with them.

(little break here to say: we were originally planning on splitting the rent 4 ways when their partner got evicted. we had an ENTIRE CONVO ABOUT THIS. it would have been abt $775 per person which is IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN NYC. i knew their partner was having a hard time financially so i said maybe they could contribute max $500 per month, closer to $200-$250 per month whether thats covering utilities, or groceries, or making someone elses rent easier to pay. i said i was VERY comfortable meeting them where they were as long as it was above $100 a month. which is fucking reasonable for an able bodied employed person. which this person was. and they talked alllll this big shit abt usually paying $1500 for rent but being in a tough financial position. and no matter how many times i said "thats unreasonable, thats out of all of our budgets, lets stick to something under $500 and start with that to make this work" they REFUSED to listen. and then ended up paying ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR THE FOUR MONTHS THEY STAYED THERE RENT FREE MOOCHING.)

this person did not contribute a fucking cent for any of us. this person actively made OUR SPACE a fucking hellish nightmare to live in and made it SO FUCKING HOSTILE. CONSTANTLY RACIST AND HOMOPHOBIC AND TRANSPHOBIC AND FATPHOBIC.... literally a closeted terf

Steamdeck OLED review/impressions

Thought I'd leave some points to my experience as I have been fiddling with it a couple of days now.

This is also, in some ways, a review of the Steam Deck as a system.

Screen

The Steamdeck has a screen which is pretty small by tablet standards today, but about the same size as the screen on the Nintendo Switch.

The OLED screen is nice and colourful. I no longer have my LCD to compare it to, but the extra few centimeters helps a lot.

I wouldn't recommend you upgrade just for the screen, however, as it is not that different from the LCD in terms of quality.

I have noticed no issues with my screen, I have seen lots of people report problems but I have identified no dead pixels or glare issues.

I am using a glossy screen with a glossy protector. I tried a matte screen protector, which helped significantly with glare, but it gave a glittery and grainy effect on the screen, so it had to be removed. The glossy protector did not affect image in any way. It was fiddly to apply all the protectors, but I got there in the end.

The good news is that the screen can go very bright, and if it is on high brightness then glare is never going to be an issue. So don't worry about which screen type you buy.

Battery

The Steamdeck has a pretty weak battery if you are running most PC games.

The LCD only lasted me an hour if I was playing Monster Hunter World or Balder's Gate 3, and if I played it to depletion, it would bug out on me. More on that shortly.

The OLED seems to have a much better battery. I have been doing a lot of low performance stuff, but I played L4D2 for over an hour earlier, and it only ate maybe 20% of the battery. I played some World today and it only ate another 20% in half an hour with a high performance game, so I think that this unit will do more comparably to the original Nintendo Switch. In all cases I had brightness maxed out.

On emulated games, if you're running gamecube or PS2, it is negligible, however if you run Wii U games it will eat a lot more power (understandably). The fastest drain for me so far was Xenoblade Chronicles X. The other Xenoblade Chronicles games can drain my Switch in an hour, so this isn't a surprise.

This was the main reason I upgraded. I don't mind having the original Switch with its poorer battery performance, but with the Steamdeck LCD it was so bad that the console was barely usable. This change may seem small, but it will make the Steamdeck much more usable for me. Especially as sometimes I am taking 6 hour flights on low voltage planes that struggle to charge my deck.

Performance

The Steamdeck can do most older games very well, but if you're aiming at something released in the past couple of years, it is going to struggle. It plays Monster Hunter Rise like a dream, and I swear that it runs Monster Hunter World better than it used to (the game was updated for deck), but Baldur's Gate 3 will look very ugly texture-wise. Then again, that game looks horrible on any computer that came out before 2021.

You will be playing most demanding games on the low to mid settings.

The irony is, while it looked horrendous, Baldur's Gate 3 performed better on deck than on my PC, and I believe this is because the game has high Memory costs. While my PC's processor and graphics card are superior, it only has 8gb of memory to the Steamdeck's 16gb.

I never played a game where the 8gb was an issue until Baldur's Gate 3. It only affected me if I was connected to lots of streams on Discord. I will compare again when I have my new mid range 32gb memory PC next week.

On the OLED, a game with low performance costs like Left 4 Dead 2 will happily push towards the 90 frames per second limit. Of course, you're going to struggle to get Monster Hunter World over 30fp unless the graphics are very low.

So the Steamdeck is about the equivalent of an entry level or mid range 2018 Gaming PC. It is outdated but it plays most of the classics well.

Controls

The steamdeck's control sticks are quite large, so they're not the best option for people with small hands like myself. However I reckon this makes the unit popular with its primary audience (adult men who struggle with the small controls of the Switch, which are perfect for me).

The haptic mouse pad is okay, but it is obviously no replacement for an actual mouse. It's slightly worse than a laptop trackpad, I think, but at least it continues to move a bit if you swipe it like a ballpoint mouse would, rather than only being "on" or "off". I report no issues with this item, it does everything you will need it to when controlling from desktop mode or with a pointer-based game.

The buttons are okay, I think the right hand buttons are too small and close to the joystick for comfort, and I think the back paddles are too large and the L5/R5 buttons are too low down. It's not exactly easy to click L5 with your baby finger if you have tiny hands like me. The xbox controller is a better option than the steamdeck base controls. It is unfortunate the console doesn't come with a stand like the Switch does, and you have to buy third party options.

What impresses me most is the gyroscopic controls built into the device. I thought playing a shooter like Left 4 Dead 2 would be impossible, but because of the gyroscope, my aiming is as good as any keyboard and mouse player! Just like when playing Breath of the Wild or Ocarina of Time 3D. Even though I can't control the joysticks very well. I don't need them for those fine little movements anymore.

I must add that the Gyro only works on its default settings if you are touching the centre of the right joystick, or the trackpad. I did not like this at all because I needed to move my thumb to press different buttons. Fortunately there was a community layout which enabled gyro at all times. I was able to change the sensitivity on the game's steam options. You may also be able to enable it or disable it permanently by messing around with your own settings.

Compatibility

The biggest obstacle to Steamdeck is the Linux operating system, which upon the console's release, had very little compatibility with most normal tools. Wii USB Helper, the Wii U emulation tool, was completely incompatible. And the reason most games need to be optimised for Deck isn't because of their actual performance costs, it's because they don't run well on Linux.

Originally when playing Devil May Cry 5, the game would crash for no reason, and playing Monster Hunter World, the textures would crash and you would be left surrounded by a glitched out void if the monster you were fighting did a move that the system didn't like.

I think that over the past year, with the popularity of Steamdeck, a lot of developers have taken to making their games run better on Linux. As for the above Wii USB helper tool, there is something called WiiUDownloader which does the same thing and is Linux compatible. So I have had a much better time.

Emulation

It was a huge pain in the ass setting everything up and troubleshooting, especially because of the closed-off technical lingo used in emulation circles. But Emudeck has been a great help in getting everything set up. It is all you need for Gamecube.

I have issues with emulation tools not searching the SD card where Emudeck is installed. They keep searching the "Home" directory for things like their BIOS. Either I need to manually write in the correct path, or it's impossible and I need to copy the bios onto the main Deck. I am not sure if this is an issue with steamdeck or the emulation tools themselves, but it was a pain.

The good news is when you finally have these games running, they play very well. I think some of them perform better on a dedicated gaming unit like the Steamdeck than they do on a Windows computer which has dozens of processes running at the same time.

Lots of work has been done with emulation tools since 2021 to give them maximum compatibility with Linux and Steamdeck, as they know this is the main portable platform for those tools now.

I have had plenty of success with PS2 games, Gamecube games, and Wii U games, once everything was set up to Steam ROM Manager and saved to Steam. You can use community controller layouts on Steam that make things way easier to set up than they would be on a Windows PC.

I haven't had any success with Yuzu, the Switch emulator. This isn't necessary for me but it just seems like it isn't finding the keys that Emudeck set up.

Docked mode

I have mostly experimented with this on my LCD prior to the latest update, but I have fiddled with it on the 3.5 update this Sunday.

I have a Toshiba LED Flatscreen TV from ten years ago. It has no issues with any consoles of any kind, though I've never tested it with a PC before.

It is 50/50 as to whether the Dock works. At first it wasn't reacting at all. Now it seems to be compatible on Gaming mode, this could be because I forced lower resolution for screen compatibility.

However, on Desktop mode, when I used the automatic settings, the screen was flickering black and turning off altogether. I searched online for a solution, but unfortunately nothing I saw was helping.

I saw that it was trying to run at 24hz 1080p. I couldn't change the framerate, but I lowered the resolution to 720p and it became locked at 60hz.

This seemed to fix the issue, but now the resolution is too small and there doesn't seem to be a way to force it to change without also lowering the framerate to unusable levels. Odd as I am pretty sure you can force Windows to a massive resolution and the text will just look very tiny on your screen.

I will attribute this to my TV being too old for a modern computer, and maybe it's just a 720p tv, as I have had no issues with the two LCD tvs that my dad owns. I'm not eager on the idea of replacing my TV just for the steamdeck, but if it has no issues in Gaming Mode, it's not going to be a priority anyway.

As for the controller connection, well, it was initially pain in the ass trying to get my xbox series x controller connected. For some reason the bluetooth wasn't doing the job. But after a firmware update on my controller, it went a lot smoother.

What I did not like was you couldn't wake Steamdeck from sleep with the controller.

I have heard this isn't a problem on the OLED, but I am sure a firmware update on the original Steamdeck could have solved the problem. And if not - Why? We have been using bluetooth controllers to wake consoles since 2006! I saw someone claim you can't wake a PC from sleep with a bluetooth controller, so I immediately tested it and... woke my PC from sleep. Why does the Steamdeck LCD have worse wireless functionality than the Nintendo Wii?

Overall

People ask on this sub if the console will replace their gaming PCs. In my case, no, as it has to be a very old gaming PC for the steamdeck to be more powerful.

Generally it hasn't replaced my Switch, either, as the Steamdeck's battery life is too limited for long sessions (or cafe gaming as I like to do), and it is a worse Multiplayer console than the Switch. Especially as I had to get the dock separately. The console's portability is limited by its great size, too. I have bought a special case that is smaller than the stock one, but it can only do so much.

However i have found the steamdeck to be useful when I am travelling with access to power outlets and want a gaming PC on the go when I am staying with my partner, or when I simply want to sit in a different room of the house and play Monster Hunter.

The OLED also has a nice screen that makes me choose to play some games on there instead of on my PC screen.

The gimmick of playing demanding Pc games on such a tiny console is fun, and the gyro functionality has opened a lot of options for me that I hadn't previously considered. Maybe it is time to return to DOOM.

I love my steamdeck. After I was happy with my OLED setup, I said goodbye to it and traded it in at CEX. I will transfer that love over to my OLED and even though it isn't immediately that useful, I will find a lot of use for it over the next year with my travelling.

Stranger Things and the quantum mechanics of time travel.

How El & Max travel through time.

I always pronounce the name in German that's why it didn't click. His name is Max - the Planck constant. With his work Max Planck layed the groundwork for modern day quantum physics/mechanics in science.

The Planck constant was a clue they gave us to point to quantum mechanics/physics and time travel. Quantum mechanics holds the scientific key to time travel and can even bypass the Grandfather paradox.

The one used in ST is from 2017,not the 80s which on face value looks like a mistake: 6.62607004

However if you split the number in half.

6+6+2+6 = 20

7+0+0+4 = 11

(That numbers, even dates put into an equation will turn to either 11 or 20 isn't unusual in Stranger Things: Mike tries to contact El 353 times, in the first DnD game Will needs a 13 but rolls a 7, Max's trailer number is 56 etc etc)

This split in half leads to another thought I had and others had but only in regards to Henry: that he was split. What if he wasn't the only one and there are two Elevens too, we just know them under a different name and face (I'll elaborate on that in another post)

Max was sent into another dimension & into the future.

Gates react depending on the emotions involved - fear and anger sent Henry into the Upside-down and love and compassion sent Max.. somewhere else. And it's just Max's mind. A gate was open. A mind gate. (We see the door of the Creel house is not in it's hinges when Max is there, meaning for her the door is open)

That's why they have parallels & mirrors. Literal mirrors as Max sees her counterpart, Henry, in the mirror, the left eye "blind" (there are other things they have in common like red & green clothing, a shot of Max in the gym vs Henry in the promo poster for that stage play thingy.)

We see the kaleidoscope before the teleportation - in El's "memory" before the zooming effect, the rainbow on Max's face & in the rainbow room. The most intriguing thing is that two kids use the rainbow as a bridge or road, playing with some toy cars on it.

And on the hand the colors we see from El's memory... It's a birth. Later associated with an electric shock when El is revived by Owens & Brenner.

"And there upon a rainbow is the answer to a neverending story. " - a rainbow bridge. A time vortex as it's called in Doctor Who. There also known as a Bifröst. Through a birth canal.

"Show no fear for she may fade away. In your hand the birth of a new day."

The association between this and "sent into another dimension" is obvious: El figuratively gave birth to or created something? Or at least helped. If not at least in a metaphorical way? . Most importantly Max's mind was send over this rainbow bridge (due to a fact that I noticed later/after this initial post - a zooming effect around El's head after the rainbow sequence) especially bc it appeared in the script during the revival, not before, a new dimension by teleportation of a being/mind. In connection to the electric shock/lighting bolt that can be seen in S1, framed by Blue and Yellow, and in the stained glass windows "eye" and in we have another association with the hints toward the 1.21 Gigawatts.

My Back to the future posts (a bit older and not 100% up to date & remember how BttF was literally in Season 3).

And the teleportation/transportation (as a metaphor) has been foreshadowed earlier when Max is in the hallway with the drawing of a rainbow starting with dots like it's disassembled into it's particles. (Comic book down below as an example of how you can do this in art)

According to an article (link down below) the physicist Timothy C Ralph ".... suggests using teleportation for time traveling, although in a different setting, namely, displacing the entangled resource in time." (This could be a coincidence but Tangled was pointed out as an inspo for S4. Tangled...entangled. The Creel house rose window that shows Blue and Yellow entangled. I don't know but it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to connect these things. So, this is definitely open for interpretation.)

Quantum mechanics, time travel/time displacement, wormholes (the DeLorean uses a wormhole btw and the time displacement is actually mentioned as a line).

They adapt these ideas (only on surface level), put in hints but basically, they told us what happened...it even makes it possible that Henry ended up in the past, defying the grandfather paradox.

We are talking about time travel via teleportation/transportation into another "dimension" .

Why else use these words in this manner in the script if not suggesting exactly that. (it could have been "when El remembered her birth/love of her mother yet this is not mentioned. Terry is probably just another proxy & Jane Ives just a...disguise). And mind lairs/inner worlds can be interpreted as exactly that: dimensions. I'm talking about Max's mind lair.

And then there was the hint towards "A wrinkle in time" and Mrs Whatsit. Madeleine L'Engle herself was fascinated by science like theoretical physics and like her the Duffers use these for ST.

In regards to quantum mechanics, you need to keep in mind a spin. "Deep inside all matter in the universe, electrons are buzzing around and behaving as if they are twirling around on their axes like spinning tops. These "spinning" electrons are fundamental to quantum physics and play a central role in our understanding of atoms and molecules."

I give you the Flux Capacitor and it's spinning too.

Time travel however will work more like in "Days of Future Past" in which Logan's future mind was sent back in time into his younger self. Same body, different time. Like sleeping.

We saw for example quantum physics used as a means to travel through time and space in Endgame too. (I use these two examples only to showcase that others have done similar things too - it's not a direct inspo {necessarily} )

Except in Stranger Things and Max's case it's the future: an immediate time jump.

Brenner’s death shows a spin too and Henry is connected to things that spin like mills.

Why? Because that day in the lab, Henry/Edward was not only sent into another dimension but was also displaced in time. (Likely it were two Henry's from two timelines or he was split - the latter more likely. Others thought in this direction already. Same with El & Max?). Like Max was now sent into the future.

Today I'm Gonna Play: Persona 3 Reload

Phew, this took a pretty long time to complete! This was one of the many awaited games of this year that I've wanted to play, and I've finally completed it today! This isn't my first time playing P3, but since I only have experience with Portable, that's the only version I can compare it to when I talk about P3R.

I'm probably in the minority that liked Tartarus in the original versions. The randomly generated dungeons and amount of them didn't bother me at all. Each floor felt it had a short and even length to explore, and the shuffle cards encouraged me to fight every single enemy (or Shadow) that appeared. Reload definitely improves on a couple aspects in that the floors look more appealing in terms of design, and are also varied per set/block that you traverse through. In addition to that, there's even additional dungeons for more challenge or encounters that spice up climbing through these floors. Despite that, I kind of felt myself getting pretty bored about 20-30 hours in the game grinding through them. I'm not sure if it's because I've been playing Persona games the past 6+ months that I'm starting to hit a fatigue, or if there's something I don't like about this revamped design. In the end, I had to switch to playing Peaceful to just get through the game. One thing I do miss and wish were in more RPGs that do dungeon formats was being able to split your party to search the floors. This made clearing them much more faster, and also helped with leveling up too. Although I think leveling in Reload is a lot more lenient, and there's a new scouting feature instead where you send 1 party member to move up a floor in advance, which is probably why they removed splitting. But this occurs randomly rather than something you can do by choice, and is mostly for item collection.

In terms of non-combat or the social aspect, I definitely liked seeing familiar and new faces, yet also didn't like them at the same time. Seeing them fully voiced in a 3D environment compared to P3P is like night and day and makes it much more immersive! Being able to see their stories as these characters struggle and change really pays off well when you finish the game. Compared to Persona 4 where I loved how tight-knit the main cast was, I couldn't really get into the social links individually (but I loved the detail of many of them being acquainted with one another). With Reload's theme of Death, it beautifully illustrates how death can be both literal and metaphorical, and how people can overcome or accept it, while looking forward to a better tomorrow. That being said, some social links definitely felt infuriating to go through, which made it hard to sympathize with those characters. 4 on the other hand at least made them bearable at most (except two that I really disliked). One really neat aspect that Reload added were link episodes with male characters and even antagonists to flesh them out more, as well as activities with the main cast. Not only were they enjoyable and added more characterization, they still provide gameplay benefits just as much as the regular social links do, so they didn't feel like a waste of time.

This is probably a nitpick but one thing I'd REALLY like to see improved upon in future titles (or maybe I'll change my mind with 5 Royal) is to allow for more time to socialize. For a game about time management, they're really brutal with how often can you hang out considering the amount of holidays, exams, and even time skips that block your progress. It makes this one unique aspect of this series so stressful to go through if you want to max all social links, unless you use a guide and follow it strictly. Fortunately, multiple playthroughs do solve this apparently as these stats can carry over. But personally, to think about going through a second playthrough when I've technically played this entry 2 and a half times, it can get really exhausting.

Apart from gameplay, the best highlight for me is the UI. Portable's UI is one of my favourite (if not my most) in all video games. I love how minimalistic yet stylish it is. Reload completely revamps it by using a water motif as a reference to the sea of souls, while also propping the protagonist. It never gets tiring to look at!

A mixed opinion I have is about the music. The new music is always great, which I think only P3 has been able to pull off compared to the others regardless of version(for e.g. I'm not a fan of Shadow World and whatever 5 Royal's opening and battle theme are). But the old singer is definitely someone that is hard to replace. Although she performs amazingly in the new songs, and I have come to accept some of the remixes; She carries a sense of monotony compared to a relaxed yet somewhat carefree style that the old singer had. Maybe monotony fits with how the protagonist is, but this is just preference.

Overall, I think this remake was made with a lot of hard work and passion, trying to bring fresh ideas yet being faithful to the original version of 3. Although I felt tired of playing it at some point and started rushing, I'm still glad I had the opportunity to go through this journey one more time. I think it's going to take a lot longer now to check out Persona 5 Royal, but I will be looking forward to Episode Aigis this year!

I'm kinda annoyed at how slowly I'm making progress. And like, people are telling me how fast I work, how fast I progress! Amazing!

But you don't get it. My mental health can manage like 2-3 days of school per week and I could be doing so much more! Like, I'm just not there, DOING shit most of the time.

And the point where I finally have to admit I need a "homework" is when I got to grinding the glass pieces I've cut. Because I can only do so much of it before my fingers are absolutely shredded. 4 hours is an absolute max and then I need like 3 days recovery. I only did it 1 hour today and I still have 2 actively bleeding wounds. And no, gloves don't work. They somehow get stuck between the glass and the grinder flat base and it's not good. Even if my sensory issues could tolerate wet gloves for more than 20 minutes max that would still be a huge issue. You NEED to be able to control the piece you're grinding. Gloves prevent that. And I'm also so far not a fan of the grinding pinces since I really, REALLY need to grind, with rough tip, since I have so many inward curves that can't be cut. It slips way too easily. I'm probably gonna use it when I roughen the edges for the copper foil but for shaping I do find them useless.

Any hand model or influencer out there who wants to trade for naturally soft hands, no matter how much abuse and use they're subjected to? I would like some callouses and hardened skin. Only thing my hands can do is to cry in pain and bleed. Like, I literally only use hand lotion when my hands feel like concentrated lemon juice soaked prunes, otherwise I just ignore them. I also never get nail infections, though I bite and pick my nails, have been since I was a kid. So yes, my hands just are naturally like that and people compliment me on it. WHICH SUCKS AS A CRAFTER. I want gnarly hands!

Anyways, I dug out and bought a bunch of transparent glass leftover pieces from school storage that were priced only by weight, not by type at all, so I'm gonna make a mosaic. On glass. A see through mosaic. Never done that before. I've done mosaic before, but there's always been the "ugly" side so I can be messy when placing pieces. Now I need to be more neat. So, a new challenge, just for those times when I can't work on my copper foil.

It’s been a few years since my unemployed period but there were a few things that helped me, that maybe will help you. If not, that’s cool, everyone is different.

1) Work smarter not harder with job applications. When you’re sending out hundreds a week and getting nothing it can feel like the solution is to blanket the world with more of them. Nope. If you’re sending too many, you’re not targeting them the way you need to. One solid application is worth way more than five half-assed ones. It may take you two hours to edit your resume to use the same language as the job posting and write a specific cover letter. With that in mind 2-4 applications is the max you should be sending per day, and you should only be sending them 5 days a week.

2) Pick a schedule. You said you’re burnt out, so schedule four hours a day (five days max) for applications and hold yourself to that. Set alarms on your phone for the start and end time. It’s your job right now so treat it as such but it’s okay to try to calm the burnout by making it a part time job for a minute. And when I say hold yourself to it I mean hold yourself to it only being four hours. Obviously if you’re almost done with an application finish it out, but don’t start another. If you finish one at 3.5hrs let yourself quit for the day.

3) As scary as it is, remember that mentioning you’re hunting for a job is a way to network. It’s okay to say you’re unemployed. It’s hard, because this country places so much emphasis on what you do for a living as your worth, but really. Most people, especially millennials and younger, have been in your shoes and dealt with the ridiculousness of the job hunt in the modern age. Let them commiserate and also keep their eyes open for you.

4) It really really does get better. Your mid-twenties is just the absolute worst. I’m in my mid-thirties and it’s not all unicorns and glitter but it is endlessly better than my mid-twenties. Breathe. You’re okay, and you’re going to be okay. This is just hard and it’s okay to find it hard.

yeah i’m very intentional with which jobs i apply for and tailor my resume and cover letter for every single one, which is really time consuming for me bc i overthink everything. it’s also hard trying to fit the mold for a job you don’t have the experience for, which is most of them at this point. i def need to be better at timing myself and holding myself to it bc oftentimes i get carried away and lose track of time. thanks for all the advice!
